My Story

Alyssa Gibson

I have always felt a calling towards caring for mothers and babies.  I founded Mighty Mama to finally live that calling.

I have been surrounded by babies since I was a child.  My mother was a NICU nurse growing up and I loved to visit her in the unit.  When I was old enough I began volunteering in the NICU and eventually began planning to go into the Peace Corps in an attempt to reach under-serviced pregnant women & babies in other parts of the world.

I chose to stay and get my degree instead, which lead to a husband, a career in musical theater performing in NYC & then children... so much for the peace corps!

Service to pregnant mothers & babies always stayed in the back of my mind and after my daughter was born I was introduced to the concept of a birth doula.  I was instantly fascinated and began my training while pregnant with my second child.  Having experienced many births, including two of my own, I know how important knowledge, brain-training & consistent labor support truly is.

My early dreams have clarified and I now know that I am meant to share my unique self by caring for pregnant women as a birth doula, educator and mentor.

I currently offer my support to women through GentleBirth childbirth education workshops, mother support groups (Mighty Mama Village, individualized coaching & birth planning.  I am also currently researching ways for doulas to reach under-served communities in my area, as well as spending time abroad serving with a nonprofit in Uganda.

I currently live in Greeley, CO with my husband, two children & 2 fluff-butts, Red & Bodhi.  We love spending our free time rock climbing, hiking and exploring the beautiful Rocky Mountains.
